Having a good pre-shot routine a good strategy
July 8, 2009 - Lee Martin

A sound pre-shot routine will help you manage your game around the golf course.

I think the key is to be consistent with your routine whether you are playing well or you are fighting to keep your round respectable.

Going into the panic mode because of a few missed shots will usually bring on more disastrous results.

I think a calming pre-shot routine is the best way to control your emotions and handle the normal pressures the game brings from shot to shot.

A good pre-shot routine is to visualize the shot you want to hit from the behind the ball on line with your target, select your club, take a practice swing to feel the length of the club, take a deep breath and then set up to the ball.

The key is to keep your pre-shot routine the same on every shot and not time consuming. Too much time will just create tension and defeat the purpose of a sound pre-shot routine.

The last thing you want to do is to have your pre-shot routine slow down your group and for you to have the reputation of being a slow player.
