The PGA Golf Tour is just beginning with most of the tour events being televised. Take advantage of these telecasts by watching and listening to the various golf analysts so that you can improve your own
golf game. The key to improving your game is understanding what they are saying and then applying it to your own game.
Here are a few of the common comments that you are likely to hear during a telecast.
“Getting over the top.” This means the player started his down swing with his shoulders and hips at the same time and produced an outside to in path of his club head.
“The back swing is too steep.” This means the player picked the club head up very quickly on the back swing instead of extending away from the ball.
“He got the club head stuck behind him on the back swing.” The player had the club head behind his hands at the top of his back swing and could not swing the club on a plane around his body. This position usually causes a pushed shot off to the right for a right-handed player.
“Staying inside the ball on the down swing.” The golfers hands, arms and trailing shoulder come back through the address position on the down swing.
“Swing plane.” The swing plane is the path of the club around your body. If you were standing on the inside of a giant hoola hoop and it was tilted about forty-five degrees this is what a swing plane would look like.
The more that you understand when comments are made about the best players in the world golf swings the better chance you have in improving your own swing.
