Visualization can help lower your scores
February 4, 2009 - Lee Martin

I feel the best way to improve your ball striking and lower your scores is through visualization of the shot that you’re about to hit — from your tee shot down to the last putt on a hole regardless of the length of the putt.

When you visualize your shots, you will see and feel your swing and be able to commit to your target.

When you are on the tee, visualize the shape and the trajectory of your tee shot to land on a side of the fairway that will give you the best access to the flagstick.

Visualization of your shot from the fairway will help you select the right club to pull off the shot you want to hit.

Visualization of your shot not only includes shape and trajectory, but where you want the ball to land on the green and rolling into the hole.

Good visualization is also very important with chip shots and pitch shots.

Pick out where you want the ball to land on the putting surface and roll into the hole. You should do the same with putting.

Look at the slope of the green and visualize the line and see the ball roll into the hole before you set up to the ball.

Visualization will also help you feel the distance of your putts.

The golf course is a giant pool table. The better you visualize your shots, the greater the chance you will leave your ball in a good position for your next shot.
