Playing golf in wet, cold and windy conditions like we have had the past few months requires swing adjustments along with mental adjustments. The first thing to remember is that in poor conditions scores are going to be higher for everybody, not just you. If you start complaining about the conditions, your whole game will suffer. Jack Nicklaus once said that when he heard someone complaining, that was one person he was going to beat. Here are some tips that will help you deal with the inclement weather in a more positive way. 1. Have rain gear that will keep you warm and dry. If you're dry, the rain will bother you less. 2. Waterproof shoes are a must. Plenty of rounds have been ruined by wet feet. 3. Unless it is too windy, use an umbrella. This will aid in keeping you and your clubs dry. 4. Keep your grips as dry as possible. 5. Use more club and hit the ball thinner or cleaner. 6. In wet greenside bunkers, use a steeper swing and a wedge with less bounce. 7. Stay on balance throughout your swing for good footing. Follow these tips and you will get the most out of your game in adverse conditions. |
