One of the most common mistakes in putting is allowing your head to move too early to watch the results. We have all read tips designed to help with our putting. Don't move your head is a common one. Another is try closing your left eye (right eye for lefties) so you don't rush to look up and see the ball. Then there is the popular listen for the ball to drop before you look up. All interesting suggestions, but how successful they are is subject to debate. Here's one tip I have found that helps. Place the putter one-half inch behind the ball. Focus on a blade of grass between the putter and the ball. As you stroke the ball, do not move your eyes. I didn't say don't move your head. Keeping your eyes on the point of contact will help you to bring the putter through square and follow through. Sometimes we have to find a little trick to help. The key is finding one that actually helps you save strokes. |
