Golfers will create consistency and power only if they maintain balance throughout the golf swing. Without proper balance, centrifugal force and clubhead speed are compromised. Without balance, our hands, arms, or shoulders can interfere with the motion, forcing us to sacrifice consistency. Ideally, you want the body rotating with the arms and legs going along for the ride. On the backswing, you want 70 to 80 percent of your weight transferred to your right foot. On the downswing, you need 100 percent of weight on the left foot. To feel balance and rotation, place your heels together and hit balls without falling down. Once you can do this, swing and follow through to the finish position and hold for several seconds. When you do this, you will begin to feel the swing from the feet up. There will be a sense of rhythm and timing. Balance governs the swing motion. The better balanced we are, the better our chances of producing a fluid golf swing. |
