This is a good time to get ready for the upcoming golf season. Even though the days are shorter and you cannot get out after work or school, there is still time to work on your game. If you don't have a weighted club, this is the time to get one. Twenty-five to 50 swings a day with a weighted club will keep your golf muscles loose and will also strengthen your hands, wrists and arms. Another good drill to keep your swing in shape is to take an 8-iron and pretend you are addressing the ball. Take a full backswing and swing down to your impact position and stop at the impact position. Do this drill with four swings and then stop and rest for a few minutes. Repeat this drill in four different sets. You should feel how this will strengthen your hands and arms. Do this drill for a few days and then move up to your 5-iron and then the driver. After a few weeks you should be able to do four sets with each club and feel much stronger. This is also a good time to see what is new in golf equipment and how it may fit into your game. If your driver is more than 3 years old it is probably a good time to test a new one. Thirty-minutes work on your short game every time you practice will do wonders for your scoring. More than 60 percent of the strokes you take are within 60 yards of the hole. If your short game is in shape, that takes the pressure off your long game. Keep your golf muscles in shape and your mind in the game and you will play better this coming season. |
