The four most important clubs in your bag in my estimation are your driver, hybrid, sand wedge and putter. The driver is going to be used a minimum of 14 times during an 18 hole round of golf. The more proficient that you are with the driver, the more fairways you are going to hit, and have a better chance of hitting greens in regulation, and getting a par or birdie. Playing with a driver that does not fit your ability and swing takes the joy out of the game starting with the first hole. Having a hybrid that replaces your long irons is a very smart choice and very versatile. A hybrid can be used out of the deep rough, divots, and tight lies where the use of a fairway metal would be a bad choice. A hybrid can also be used for running chip shots. A sand wedge with the proper bounce and loft that fits your ability and also fits the golf course that you predominately play is very important. If the sand on your course is soft and the rough around the greens is fairly deep, your sand wedge should have more bounce. If the lies are tight around the greens, and the sand is wet or firm when you play, a wedge with less bounce is preferable. Putting is probably the most important part of the game. Good putting erases a lot of mistakes that golfers make during a round of golf. To reach your potential on the putting green, make sure your putter fits you. This means having the right length, lie angle, grip size and head type. There are many types of head styles to choose from. Take your time in selecting a putter. Obviously, all your clubs should fit you to reach your potential. But I believe the driver, hybrid, sand wedge and putter are the most important clubs in your bag. |
